Gabe caves in to his desires, and is excommunicated, banned from friends and family. To repent and reenter the faith, he frequents the library, and discovers Henry Miller< Charles Bukowski and Louis-Ferdinand Celine. The authors open the door to life that's romantic and messy - yet poignant and beautiful. He is inspired to write, when his cousin Karen, arrives showing life beyond the closed world he was born into. Karen's punk rock lifestyle and future outside his faith, Gabe spirals into de3ep crisis. His worldly experiences don't feel as bad as he was taught. If his belief is shattered, can he marry Jasmine still? Is God black and white for affairs of the heart?
