    About This Item

    • Comedy

The Great Stone Face of Comedy stars in this extremely rare compilation of his television series Life with Buster Keaton. In each segment, Keaton pursues a different "get rich quick" scheme, including opening a sporting goods store and running his own theatre company. Disaster inevitably ensues. Along the way, Buster recreates some of the most beloved moments from his films The Butcher Boy (1917), The Cameraman (1928) and Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928). Keaton worked with his longtime colleague Clyde Bruckman to properly update his classic material for a new audience. Director Arthur Hilton is most recognized as a film editor, having worked on classics such as The Bank Dick (1940), Scarlet Street (1945), and The Killers (1946). He also directed the cult favorite Cat-Women of the Moon (1953). The popularity of Life with Buster Keaton on television led to a comeback for the then-55-year-old comedian, including a 1957 big studio biography starring Donald O'Connor. As no episodes of the series are commercially available, this DVD is an invaluable document of this era of the comedian's career. Also included are an assortment of commercials that Keaton made during the same period.
